Somewhere out there in the world are ruins that need to be explored, treacherous ancient traps that need to be bypassed, and huge piles of treasure that need to be put into a big sack and taken home. For the safety of mankind.
To face these challenges are the brave sons and daughters of the Wynarn University. Among the Great Cities their skill at finding and cataloging the world of science and magic is legendary. Also it should be noted that any vicious rumors from their chief competitors, Morgrave University, should be immediately discounted as fraudulant tales founded on jealously. Besides studies have shown that a much higher percentage of valuable artifacts get sold from Morgrave’s collection then ever leave Wynarn.
Pringle himself is a tough and rather stubborn student at the university, a certified journeyman on probation concerning a recent fire in the alchemical storehouse off-campus. He is certified in Magical Theory and Forging, and has minors in Pre-Empire Art History and Cooking Techniques. He has spent years working as an apprentice in the forges in town, where the University makes magical infusions and enhancements to metal.
Loreanz hopes his travels will bring him some better success. He plans to use either his crafting or educational skills in a real world application. Failing that, he hopes to discover an interesting magical phenominon that will boost his reputation enough to regain the good graces of the University Board. It has been several jobs and a few years since he came west over the mountains, and so far he has not had great success.
How does the Crossbow-gun-thing work anyway?
The Artficers of Wynarn are no real wizards no matter what they say. Arcs of power do not burst from their fingers, and their enemies do not get buried in sudden showers of ice. Most Artificers can only do the most basic cantrips unaided. However, part of their training is the rituals and chants to control magical items which gives them some advantage in channeling their rather meager arcane force through implements. Pringle’s Boltgun hurls short shafts topped crossbow and a guiding field of force magic. It requires crossbow ammunition to reload, and about a week in a workshop with tools like wood and metal to rebuild. It has a chamber on the stock to swap in wands and a high quality polished glass scope on the top. In the hands of anyone who can use arcane powers it acts as a Superior Crossbow. It also has a reinforced wooden stock, with the ability to release an electrical shock, for beating offending plebians in the head.
